ByBi Honey / Packaging
"In greek and roman mythology, honey was food for the gods".
- Ambrosia: Ancient Greek Mythical Element
March 2019: Packaging suggestion for ByBi honey as a school project. The purpose of this project was to gain deeper insight into packaging design and branding, where the task was to create a new identity for ByBi. Keeping their values and designing to be different was the main goal. ByBi is Oslo's urban beekeeping community, established in 2012. They are an environmental organization focused on biodiversity, improving the city's pollinating insects. Their honey is sold in 15 cafes and small shops in the city.
Different types of honey can taste anything from sweet, sour, bitter and umami. Flavours can be associated with herbs, lemon, flowers, fruits, spices, malt, menthol, smoke and sometimes raisins. In the big picture, honey is ranked according to flavour intensity:
Strong taste •••
Medium taste ••
Mild taste •
The design is based on the fact that in Greek and Roman mythology honey was food for the gods. I wanted to present honey as something exclusive, but for everyone. A small home gourmet from the local area that anyone over the age of 1 can enjoy. This range of honey is for those who want organic with a simple and slightly more luxurious feel than honey packaging in general. The design targets mothers or young adults with a focus on "pure" food, who would like to have the honey standing on the kitchen counter. They are interested in facts, reading the packaging to learn about honey and bees.
